WELCOME PLASMA REACTOR!
Titanmed has once again followed its natural propensity to strive for perfection by acquiring a PLASMA REACTOR, an innovative equipment able to achieve the best possible results in cleaning the surface of dental implants.
The implants decontamination process utilised to date by Titanmed’s Chemical Laboratory has proven, over the years, its absolute effectiveness in the chemical cleanliness of the surface, ensuring the removal of slag processing such as carbon and alumina, universally considered as possible causes of failure in the osseointegration of dental implants.
The traditional process of decontamination, however, uses only liquid cleaning agents that do not have an effect on organic contaminants present on the surface of the implants. The latter, in fact, can be removed only by gaseous cleaning agents, applicable through an electro-chemical process performed by the plasma reactor. The reactor is equipped with an internal chamber that contains the implants and in which a highly powered flow of inert gas Argon ions is conveyed. As a result of the ion bombardment, even the organic particles nestled in the surface roughness are reached and removed.
This important innovation has been possible thanks to a huge investment by Titanmed in financial and human resources and was made technically possible thanks to an intense teamwork. This project, in fact, was coordinated by the Research & Development team at Titanmed and conducted in close collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino, Turin University and the Technical Office of the manufacturer of the reactor. Specifically, as a result of the research and monitoring carried out by the Department of Applied Science and Technology of the Politecnico di Torino and the Department of Surgical Sciences CIR Dental School, University of Turin, the manufacturer was able to change some characteristics of the standard reactor using construction materials more suitable for medical use. Research also focused on the fine-tinung of the procedure in order to define the optimal composition of the elements used by the reactor.
After the approval of the final results of the tests carried out on the implants, the experimental phase was completed and the reactor became operational in the clean room of the Galbiate production site.
The use of its traditional decontamination process together with the use of the reactor, has allowed Titanmed to obtain results that, for Titanmed and its partners involved in the project, represent a great satisfaction and pride. As indicated in the RT-PCR analysis performed by the Politecnico di Torino in order to detect the presence of pro-inflammatory contaminants on the surface of the implants, the values reported for the Titanmed implants are in line with those of systems produced by the most prestigious international brands and with the values stated in the scientific literature. The reports of the tests will soon be available in the technical area of Titanmed’s website: www.tecomimplantology.com.
